Chairperson Sandra Walmsley was elected Chair of Bury North CLP in 2019 and since then have dealt with the general election, the Labour leadership contest and the Coronavirus pandemic – all of these have thrown up different challenges that the CLP. When Sandra was elected Chair, her aims were to ensure Labour policy was directed from grass roots and to ensure we return a Labour government to power. As a local councillor in Moorside, Sandra sees every day the result of a decade of austerity on the people of Bury and beyond and knows that only a Labour government will change this to improve the lives of ordinary people.
Secretary Laura Chepner lives with her husband and daughter in Ramsbottom. Laura is also Secretary of Ramsbottom Branch. Laura is a qualifed primary school teacher and works as an education consultant across the UK. Laura is also involved with Bury Climate Action group and was the community leader of the successful ‘Plastic Free Ramsbottom’ campaign.
When Laura applied for the position of secretary, she pledged to make everyone feel welcome and unifed. Since becoming secretary, Laura has arranged every month events to represent our “broad church” of members which provides opportunites to highlight the great work done in our communites.

Communications Officer Will has been an activist since he started campaigning for workers’ and refugees’ right through his work with Amnesty International at university. He has campaigned with Labour for over five years across the country, welcoming new members to join our events and meetings.
Will is also a qualifed secondary Maths teacher and is involved with several charities, including the Samaritans and Radcliffe Hospice. Will is involved with the Bury Action Climate group which works to mitigate the effects of climate change in Bury by investing in flood defenses.
Environment Officer Helen has been an activist since she started campaigning for workers’ and students’ rights whilst at university. She has campaigned for social justice through her work with Amnesty International on human rights issues. She has also lobbied for policy reform around woodland protection with the Lancashire Wildlife Trust, and cares deeply about preserving our green spaces.
She is also chair of campaigning and lobbying at Bury Climate Action Group and is proud to be working with Bury Council and local residents to affect change as our environmental officer. She has been instrumental in supporting the Bury Community Hubs during the current COVID-19 crisis.
