Ramsbottom Labour members join Bury Council Leader Rishi Shori and other anti-fracking protesters outside the Town Hall ahead of the Council debate on fracking
Your Ramsbottom Labour team have been working with Bury Council to oppose fracking in our town. We are delighted to report that a motion was carried at the July Bury Council meeting to:
- Ban fracking on all council owned land
- Rigorously assess all applications on non-Council owned land
- Consult with local communities on any planning applications received for their area.
- Commit Bury Council to work towards being fossil-free by 2025
Conservatives are #OutOfTouch
All 3 Conservative Councillors in Ramsbottom, refused to support the Council’s anti-fracking motion. They are out of touch with the need for clean, renewable energy.
Karen Leach, who led Ramsbottom Labour’s campaign, said: ‘It’s fantastic that Bury’s Labour-controlled Council has listened to the concerns of people in Ramsbottom & Bury.’
But local Conservative MP, David Nuttall, has said he wants to ‘get cracking with fracking’ and this, together with the Government’s recent decision to overturn local Council decisions against fracking nearby in Lancashire, demonstrates that Conservatives are determined to push ahead with their fracking agenda despite the wishes of local people. Ramsbottom Labour will resist any attempts to impose fracking on our town.
The Labour Party will ban fracking if elected to Government in 2020 and will invest in greener, sustainable, renewable forms of energy to meet our long-term energy needs and create jobs.
